Cricket South Africa (CSA) have made a bold decision to pull out of the ODI leg and cancel a 3 match ODI series against Australia in Jan 2023. CSA informed Cricket Australia (CA) that they were unable to work out the dates for the ODI series as CSA is promoting a new T20 league in South Africa and are giving it more priority than the ODI series as of now!

CSA Will Forfeit ODI Series 0-3

CSA have agreed to forfeit the ODI series to Australia 0-3 and concede full points to Australia. This is a big decision for CSA because they not only lose out on revenue from the ODI series cancellation but South Africa could not struggle to automatically qualify for the ODI World Cup.

South Africa currently sits in 11th place on the points table of the ICC World Cup Super League and are only ahead of Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. Only the top 8 teams will qualify automatically for the ICC ODI World Cup. The Proteas would have increased their chances of moving up the points table by winning the series or atleast one game against Australia in the ODI series.

CSA have confirmed that South Africa will play the test series in Australia!
