The Greek government confirmed this week that it will be easing wagering restrictions on igaming and poker games.

At present, online gamblers in Greece have their bets on online slots and table games capped at €2. But the Hellas government gazette revealed that the maximum wager has now been increased to €20 a flutter, effective immediately.

The restriction relaxation will also apply to online poker games.

In other good news, the government announced that it will allow jackpot prizes on games and chance, including slots, to be doubled. Currently, they are set at €70,000, but they can now reach as much as €140,000.

The Hellenic Gaming Commission, Greece’s gambling authority, has welcomed the new decision, as have the fifteen operators that hold Greek gaming licenses.

The president of the Commission said that he believed that relaxing the wagering restrictions was a step in the right direction.

The government requires all operators to connect to its central monitoring system, and the latest declaration also extended the deadline for them to make this connection to December, 2022.

The Hellenic Gaming Commission continues to issue licenses to trustworthy operators. Earlier this year, it gave Flutter Entertainment the green light to launch a number of its brands across the country, including PokerStars Sports, PokerStars Casino and its online poker room.
