According to a press release of 29th July, 2020, race track and casino operator Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) will be launching its sports betting operations in Michigan after entering into a partnership with Hannahville Indian Community.

In terms of the agreement CDI will launch a BetAmerica-branded retail sports book at the Island Resort & Casino in Harris which will be operated by the tribe and also launch its BetAmerica online platform and online casino across the Wolverine State, subject to acquiring the requisite license and regulatory approvals.

The Hannahville Indian Community is a fairly small tribe, situated at the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsular, which has changed completely since the introduction of gaming in the 1980’s.

Keneth Meshigaud, Tribal Chairperson for Hannahville Indian Community, commented that they are incredibly excited about their new partnership with BetAmerica.

Meshigaud also said that the BetAmerica sportsbook will expand upon their already compelling number of entertainment options, and provides another great reason for people to come and visit them on Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula.

The Great Lakes State boosts the presence of CDI’s’s BetAmerica sports book brand into a fifth state.  The Michigan’s regulator, the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), began accepting applications for online gambling licenses in May in an endeavor to officially launch online sports betting in early 2021.

Bill Mudd, COO of Churchill Downs Incorporated, said that they are pleased to be able to offer sports fans throughout Michigan their innovative BetAmerica sportsbook and iGaming product.  He added that guests of Island Resort & Casino as well as online players in the Michigan will be able to access sports betting, the best in online casino games and unique promotions through BetAmerica.
