Malta-based online gambling operator Max Entertainment has announced that it has pulled its brands from the market in the UK, due to Brexit concerns and shift in corporate focus to other well-regulated markets.

Last week the company revealed that it had taken the decision to close its operations towards the UK market for strategic business reasons and that Slotty Vegas and its BETAT Casino brands would terminate game play on Thursday, 2nd January 2020. Customers will be required to remove their online casino accounts prior to Tuesday, 31st March 2020 by contacting the company’s customer service and proving that they are the account holders

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) revoked Max Entertainment’s UK license in June 2019 following ‘identification of concerns relating to the operator’s finances and information supplied’ to the UKGC in connection with the ownership structure of the company.  After Max Entertainment appealed the decision of the regulator two weeks later, the revocation was held.

Max Entertainment issued a statement saying that it had decided, albeit ‘with a heavy heart’ to leave the UK gambling market citing Brexit concerns and shift in corporate focus to other well-regulated markets.

According to Greg Bennett, Chief Executive Officer of Max Entertainment, his company expects to receive its Swedish license this month and Max Entertainment will also aim to operate in the Netherlands at the start of its controlled online market in mid-2021.

The company also stated that it did not rule out the possibility of a UK market return ‘after Brexit and the market is settled’.
