The Office of Lottery and Gaming (OLG) has announced that license applications for privately operated sports wagering will be available on Tuesday, 3rd December 2019 while the launch of its citywide app for sports betting will once again be delayed.

D.C.s four professional sports venues and small businesses that are considering offering sports betting will have the opportunity to apply for Class A and Class B licenses.  It is expected that the D.C. Lottery will take between 30 to 45 days to review the applications and commence approving licenses.

The applications for the four professional sports venues and small business will be made available via the body’s new online application portal, which can be accessed through the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs (DCRA) business licensing portal, dcra.dc.gov as well as via the OLG’s sports wagering microsite, dclotterysportsbetting.com.

Forms and instructions for applicants requiring a sports wagering license in the Operator (Class A and Class B), Management Service Provider and Supplier categories will be found in the online portal while the Occupational License application will be made available in the online portal at the beginning of January 2020.

Beth Bresnahan, Executive Director of OLG, commented that it is committed to expediting the licensing process which will be fair and transparent, but thorough.

Applicants will be required to undergo an extensive background investigation in order to ascertain whether they are suitable to participate in the sports wagering industry.
