Media and Internet giant Yahoo has announced that it entered into a deal with MGM Resorts and its BetMGM sportsbook app on Tuesday, 28th October 2019.

Yahoo also revealed the MGM’s sportsbook will ‘power sports betting for Verizon Media-owned media platform Yahoo Sports and create collaborative content experiences and life events’.

In a report issued by Yahoo on the multi-year partnership, it was revealed that Yahoo Sports will be launching real-money sports betting on its app in regulated US states and create collaborative content experiences and live events with all transactions taking place on the BetMGM Online Sports Betting and Gaming app.

The integration of BetMGM in the Yahoo Sports app for iOS and Android is scheduled to take place in November 2019, according to the report, which calls the deal ‘exclusive’.

Guro Gowrappan, Chief Executive Officer at Verizon Media, commented that the historic partnership with Yahoo Sports and BetMGM will change the future of fandom, providing new ways for sports fans to go beyond engaging with content and interact through commerce.

Gowrappan also said that at Verizon Media, they believe in building products that connect consumers to their passions and drive the deepest end-to-end value possible.

According to a report from Sports Business Journal, Yahoo Sports does not become a consumer-facing sportsbook in the deal but will, instead, send traffic to BetMGM and get compensated for that traffic.

There is currently limited places to send that traffic for real-money sports betting for MGM with BetMGM being only live in Nevada and New Jersey and users required to sign up in person in Nevada.
