The World Series of Poker (WSOP) recently honored Doyle Brunson in a commemorative event called “Celebration of Life”. The memorial, which took place at the Jubilee Theater at Horseshoe Las Vegas, was attended by numerous high-profile poker figures, some of whom are Poker Hall of Famers.

Tributes Pour in for Doyle Brunson

Gaming executive and three-time WSOP bracelet winner Lyle Berman, one of Brunson’s closest comrades, shared that their friendship lasted 46 long years during which he has spent more waking hours with Brunson than with his two ex-wives combined.

Daniel Negreanu’s tribute focused on Brunson’s well-established poker career that spanned more than five decades. How long you can stay in the game is the ultimate measure of poker success, according to the GGPoker ambassador, and no one will ever compare to the Godfather of Poker in this aspect!

For Phil Hellmuth, Brunson was an “oasis” who dominated the high-stakes room at the Bellagio since it opened. He remembered Brunson’s amazing sense of humor that made everybody want to be with him.

Brunson’s son Todd Brunson, who is a WSOP bracelet winner himself, thanked everyone in attendance, saying that his father treated the poker world as his second family.

October 2 is Doyle Brunson Day

That won’t be the last event celebrating Brunson’s life and legacy, with PokerStars also hosting a similar event in October. Additionally, the poker community agreed to recognize October 2 as Doyle Brunson Day in honor of the two consecutive Main Events he won with a ten-deuce hand.
