In March 2015, Microgaming rolled out its groundbreaking project to take online gambling to the next level by introducing virtual reality elements. At the time, the group announced the creation of VR (virtual reality) roulette where players wear an Oculus Rift DK2 headset with Leap Motion 3D controller to track their hand movements and project them into the 3D world.

The CEO of Microgaming, Roger Raatgever said last year that he foresaw a huge change in online gambling within the next four years and believed that VR gaming was the next step up in the world of igaming as we know it today.

Recently, Microgaming demonstrated how its new VR Roulette works at the ICE Totally Gaming 2016 expo. The game was housed in an ultra-futuristic CRYO lab which Microgaming commissioned to have especially built for the ICE event.  The prototype of VR Roulette was designed to study the potential of immersive 3D technology in the world of online gambling, and players were whisked off into outer space using the headsets and controller.

Once again, Microgaming proves that it leads the pack when it comes to a pioneering spirit in the world of online gambling. The group recently won the Digital Gaming Innovation of the Year Award at the 2015 Global Gaming Awards for the VR Roulette product, beating a shortlist of nine other competitors. The stunning game was created based on findings to create augmented and virtual reality apps for different devices.
