The Tote is thrilled to announce that it has entered into a new three-year sponsorship agreement with Galway Races in terms of which it will act as the title sponsor of one of Ireland’s most historic races, the Tote.com Galway Plate.

The race was inaugurated in the year 1869 and takes place at Galway Racecourse in west Ireland each year, offering an amount of €250,000 ($305,900) in prize money.

The Tote first sponsored the race in 2010 and the renewal of the sponsorship will take the company’s association with the Galway Plate into its eleventh year in 2020.

High quality horses have always been attracted to The Tote.com Galway Plate with its first prize of close to €150,000.  It is expected that the President of Ireland Michael D Higgins will once again present the Plate to winning connections.

Recent winners of the race include Road to Riches, Carlingford Lough and the 2017 winner Balko Des Flos.

Tom Higgins, Chief Executive Officer of The Tote, commented on the sponsorship renewal by saying they are delighted to continue this mutually beneficial partnership with the Galway Races team.

Michael Moloney, General Manager of Galway Racecourse, said that as an integral part of Irish racing, the Tote are a natural partner for them to work with and they are delighted to continue this agreement.  He added that the Galway Plate is one of the longest running races anywhere in Ireland and they recognize the significance of having The Tote.com as title sponsor given their near 90 year association with Irish racing.
