As the official season of the National Football League opened last week, there was plenty of action reported at Atlantic City-based casino sportsbooks. The eight sportsbooks in the city were filled with football fans and bettors, keen to start backing their favorite tams on the opening weekend of the centennial NFL season.

Some of the sportsbooks took advantage of the opening weekend to launch on the date, such as The Book inside Bally’s Atlantic City Wild Wild West Casino.  There to greet players were former players of the Philadelphia Eagles football team, including Chris Long.

Sportsbook operators reported on many first-time players entering their premises, many of them placing smaller wagers of just $10 just to get a taste of the action. Managers also reported on the positive effect that the extra fans were having on other facilities such as the bars, restaurants and casino floors.

At any given time, some 80% of all bets in New Jersey are placed remotely, mainly on platforms run by the daily sports giants, DraftKings and FanDuel. However, NFL opening weekend saw an increase in the number of players betting at physical sportsbooks.

Currently, it is possible to wager online and/or in person in:
