LeoVegas, a Swedish mobile gaming company and provider of online casino and sports betting services, is pleased to reveal that it has been granted a Spanish gaming license in terms of which it will be able to operate in the jurisdiction.  The license was granted by the Spanish gambling regulator, Direccion General de Ordenacion del Juego.

The Spanish license will enable LeoVegas to offer Casino as well as Sports Betting services within Spain.

Gustaf Hagman, the Group Chief Executive Officer at LeoVegas, recently issued a statement wherein he said that he welcomes Spain as their seventh locally regulated market.  He added that with LeoVegas’ position as ‘King of Casino’ they are now entering Spain with the ambition to take the mobile position and offer the ultimate gaming experience.

Hagman went on to say that the Spanish online gambling market have a strong underlying growth with over 20% per year.  He also said that the Spanish license is an important step in their continued expansion in other Spanish-speaking countries where they have already conducted test launches in Peru and Chile.

Despite the fact that only a small proportion (13%) of the Spanish population gambles online compared to 50% in Sweden, LeoVegas is hoping to entice them with cutting-edge technology.

Obtaining the Spanish gaming license is all part of LeoVegas’s aim to expand across regulated markets as well as emerging markets with the company already holding licenses in seven European countries – the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Malta, Italy, Ireland and the tiny German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
